Spring Confetti

Filed under: The Water Cooler by Rachel @ 12:21 pm

Lucy and Laura are in California , hopefully enjoying some top quality spring weather. We’re back here welcoming the daffodils with happy white confetti falling from the clouds [a very reliable source informed me that we have not had this crazy cold sort of April since 1892].

Usually when Lucy and Laura are gone, we all go into “not-quite-as-amazingly-productive-mode,” but this time around Frank and Austin have decided to kick things into high spring-cleaning-gear. Austin rearranged his whole office, and now has a comfy chair in one corner so visitors will feel more welcome. Frank has turned our room into less of a storage unit and more of a cheery, organized office. Maybe now the creative juices will start flowing in the form of book covers for Face to Face (my very favorite book ever), Angels in the Architecture, etc. In the meantime, we are all looking forward to having L& L back in the office, and can’t wait to hear the reports about their kicking-back-on-the-beach time and selling books at the conference. Happy Friday!

from the mouths of others.

I’m a big fan of reviews.

For starters, I used to write them myself, and I can still remember how much of a challenge it was to offer an opinion on a book (or CD) without saying too much. But now that I’m on the “other side” as it were, I appreciate them for other reasons. It’s nice to know that someone else decided that one of our books was worth thinking and writing about. (more…)

The Link “Kid Friendly” Homeschool Conference is this weekend: April 25-27, 2008! Laura Blakey and I will be flying to sunny Agoura Hills, California, to represent Canon Press. The conference runs Friday through Sunday; however, Laura and I will be hanging out at our booth only Friday and Saturday.

If you’d like to visit us, the conference will be held at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel, in Agoura Hills, CA. We’ll be offering a 35-50% discount at the conference. Please tell a friend!

You can find out more information about the conference here or call 805-497-3311.

And while I’m on the subject of conferences…

Is Christianity Good for the World?

Filed under: *New* Books & Audio by Frank @ 2:48 pm

Is Christianity Good for the World? You may remember that last year, Doug Wilson participated in an online debate with Christopher Hitchens (hosted by Christianity Today). At the time the debate generated a fair amount of buzz in the blog world, and also garnered media attention (from American Spectator and others).

We’re excited to announce that we are publishing the debate in book format this fall, along with brand new prefaces from both authors. The book, titled Is Christianity Good for the World?, will drop on September 2nd, and it’s now available for pre-order on our website. This book is an important contribution to the New Atheism discussion, partly because of its unique debate format, and partly because it features two keen minds going head-to-head on a brutally pertinent topic.

Receive Blog Updates Automagically

Filed under: Behind the Scenes by Austin @ 3:49 pm

Do you know what RSS stands for? No? You are not alone.

RSS = Rich Site Summary. But what you really need to know is that RSS Feeds are an easy way to keep up with regularly changing web blogs and other similar sites. You don’t need to visit each of your favorite web sites any more because RSS automatically retrieves their latest updates and allows you to stay in the loop with ease.

May 1st has been named “RSS Awareness Day.” (Side note: did you know that only 5% of internet users use RSS feeds? Shocking, but true.) And since a number of Canon folks’ lives were recently transformed by the introduction of RSS, it seems worthy of a post. Here is a clever video that explains it all:

But, as LeVar Burton used to say on “The Reading Rainbow”, don’t take my word for it! If you’d like to start reading this blog via Google Reader, click here.
